International Sales Conference cars

Some of the collector pieces not often seen are the small range of Hornby’s ‘International Sales Conference’ cars handed out by Hornby Hobbies to its international sales managers who attended the annual meeting. I believe, the then over-seeing manager for all international sales was Frits Passet who clocked-up many air miles visiting the distributors and Hornby offices world-wide. Once a year, he brought them together for an annual rally to get everyone ‘singing from the same page’ and the usual encouragements.

These cars were only issued in 1998, 2000 and 2001 as far as I know. The numbers were very small. They were all hand printed at the Margate factory. I don’t believe they were individually numbered or have a label stating their special nature except the C2193 plinth had the event title printed on the front face and the other two cars had printing on the top of the car as the only unique identifier.

1998 C2130 Toyota Corolla in gold. 20 off.

2000 C2193 Lamborghini Diablo, clear. 50 off.

2001 C2361 Porsche 911 GT3R, yellow. 10 off.

The cars were not used for competitions at these events and would remain in pristine condition. Quite often these reached the collector market soon after.
